The Mendelssohn Fellowship is a two-year program that supports the efforts of a highly accomplished and motivated young Korean musician to further the art of chamber music, in Korea, over a two-year period.

 

The Fellowship provides an artistic budget of $20,000, and is open to performers between the ages of 18 and 30 who are committed to professional careers in music.

 

The Fellowship is named after the 19th century composer Felix Mendelssohn, who greatly expanded the understanding and appreciation of music in his day. David Finckel, cellist, serves as the Fellowship’s Artistic Director.

 

Sample projects and uses of the Fellowship funds include: presenting of chamber music performances; educational programs and outreach events; fees for collaborating musicians, educators; media initiatives, such as web sites or live streaming; music industry and/or education conferences; consultation expenses; and promotional costs. In addition to their performances and credentials, applicants will be evaluated based upon the creativity and feasibility of their proposed projects. Applicants must submit at least three project ideas, one or all of which would take place during the Fellowship period. Applicants must submit DVD recordings of themselves in chamber music performance.

 

Selection process:

1. May 1-September 30, 2014: Applications accepted

2. November 1, 2014: Finalists announced

3. December 6, 2014: Finalist auditions

December 10, 2014: Announcement of winner

 

The winner will design and execute projects in consultation with Casual Classic and members of the Advisory Committee. Casual Classic will dispense funds, monitor progress, and guide as necessary. Mendelssohn Fellowship funding shall terminate after two years; however, projects may continue with independent funding.
